Experiment #1: Final Summer Biphasic Sleep Schedule

13 07 2008

I have finally found a sleep schedule that I can live on. For the past couple weeks, I have been sleeping 6 hours a night with a 20 minute nap before work. If I have Judo practice, I nap for another 20 minutes right before Judo. Otherwise, I skip that nap. This seems to be working very well and I can do everything I want to do without feeling exhausted.

Maybe when fall starts, I will change my schedule because of school, but right now, I will stick with this. It is comfortable. It gives me time to do what I need to do such as making my massage website (which I finally finished after working on it for a few days). It also is easy for my body to stick to.

Hello! I see that you are a successful biphasic sleeper! Congrats. Quick question, after your Judo, do you find yourself sleeping longer? Or is it more of a challenge to get up? Reason i ask is i find myself failing my sleep schedule on the days i go to the gym..any tips would help! Thank you in advance!

I believe that my 20 minute nap before Judo helps me a lot in regards to keeping to my schedule.
In addition, before I go to bed, I set my alarm for 6 hours and put my alarm far away from the bed so by the time I get to it, I’m awake. I also make sure not to oversleep on my 20 minute naps as more than that, I start to get drowsy.

One thing that could be a factor for you is your diet before bed and the time you go to the gym. For example, eating sugar before bed may make you more drowsy in the morning. At the same time, going to the gym at night may make you more energetic at night so that you’re more tired when you wake up in the morning so going to the gym in the morning would be better. Please let me know if you have any other questions or if you’d like me to elaborate on anything I said.
